Benidorm is banning self-propelled chairs (sillas autopropulsadas) designed for more than one person. The ban applies in the town of Benidorm, and the measures will be introduced by Benidorm Town Hall (Ayuntamiento de Benidorm). Las Provincias reported the news on 26 October.
The reason given is a high accident rate linked to emerging forms of mobility and to personal mobility vehicles (Vehículos de Movilidad Personal).
The town hall plans to bring in measures to reduce accidents linked to these new forms of mobility. Judging by the headline of the report, the ban on multi-person chairs is one of them.
The information available does not say when the ban takes effect or whether it is already in force. It also does not give the legal document behind it, the level of fines, how it will be enforced or which streets or zones it covers. Nor does it explain what the town hall means by these chairs.
