The full council meeting (pleno) of Elche has approved a change to the municipal bylaw (ordenanza) on the rubbish collection charge (tasa de basuras). The change will apply in 2027, Alicante Plaza reported on 26 October 2026.
The amendment was carried by PP and Vox. PSOE and Compromís abstained in the vote.
Under the new scheme, rates will go down for some categories of payer and up for others.
PSOE and Compromís question the new distribution of rates (reparto de tarifas). They warn that, as a result, the municipal coffers will take in €264,000 more a year. That figure has not been officially confirmed.
Which categories get a cut and which a rise, and what the new rates are, has not been reported. The date of the meeting, the date the change takes effect and the position of PP and Vox are also not given in the information available.
