Elche Town Hall has cancelled its entire municipal Halloween programme, along with any Halloween events held in municipal premises, according to Alicante Plaza. They were planned for 31 October at the plaça de Baix and on the L'Escorxador terrace. The reason given is the official mourning declared across Spain after a railway accident in the province of Toledo.

The mourning has also led to the cancellation of several performances at the 31st Festival Medieval de Elche. Four are listed as cancelled:

  • Thursday 29 October, 20:30, Gran Teatro - "El Rey se Muere" (Atalaya-TNT);
  • Friday 30 October, 20:30, Gran Teatro - "Trenza Mía" (Blanca Paloma);
  • Saturday 31 October, 18:00, Sala Tramoia - "Rucs. El Maleficio del Brujo" (La Pera Llimonera Teatre);
  • Saturday 31 October, 20:30, Gran Teatro - "El Rey de la Farándula" (Ángel Ruiz).

The cancellations are announced on the official posters, which read "Cancelado debido al luto oficial decretado". Flags on Elche's municipal buildings will be flown at half-mast.

The source does not say how long the mourning will last, whether the events will be rescheduled, or how ticket refunds will work. It also does not say whether the rest of the Festival Medieval programme is going ahead.
