Annual inflation in Spain was 4.9% in October, according to the flash estimate from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), the national statistics office, published on Friday 30 October. The figure is the consumer price index (IPC). It is unchanged on the month before. Price rises that began in July have slowed but are not yet falling, mainly because of fuel. Core inflation, which excludes fresh food and energy, was 3.1%, the second month running at that level.
Over the past year fuels have risen by 27.7% and energy by 21.7%, which reports link to instability in the Middle East. Fresh, unprocessed food is up 15.2%. Several items held the index down. Fuels and lubricants for private vehicles fell in price by more than in October 2025. Food, soft drinks and clothing rose by less than a year earlier. Package holidays, gas and liquid fuels (combustibles líquidos) pushed the index up.
Extended fuel discounts applied throughout October: 20 cents a litre off diesel and 5 cents off petrol. From Sunday 1 November the tax discount will be 20 cents a litre on both fuels. This is part of the third package of measures to protect families and businesses, recently approved by the Council of Ministers (Consejo de Ministros, the Spanish cabinet). INE will publish the detailed breakdown and the final October figure on 13 November. The source gives no figures for the Valencian Community or Alicante province.
