AEMET, Spain's state weather agency, has issued an orange weather warning for rain for the Litoral norte de Alicante zone. It runs from 21:00 on Tuesday 3 November to 03:59 on Wednesday 4 November. The threshold is 40 mm of rain in one hour, and the probability of the event is put at 40%-70%. The text of the warning names the districts (comarcas) of la Safor and la Marina Alta. AEMET says: "Serious damage to people and property may occur, especially to those who are vulnerable or in areas exposed to the phenomenon."
Immediately afterwards, from 04:00 to 11:59 on Wednesday 4 November, a yellow warning applies to the same zone. Its threshold is 20 mm in one hour, the probability is again 40%-70%, and the showers may come with thunderstorms. Both notices were issued on 3 November at 21:42. On AEMET's scale, yellow means possible moderate damage and orange means serious damage.
The orange warning was issued as an update to an earlier yellow one, which covered 20:00 on 3 November to 11:59 on 4 November with thresholds of 20 mm in one hour and 60 mm in 12 hours. The first yellow warning for the zone was issued on 2 November for 20:00 to 23:59 on 3 November. On 3 November it was changed twice: at 11:34 it was extended to 14:59 on 4 November, and at 18:33 the end time was changed to 11:59.
The notices do not say which municipalities are affected. They also do not make clear whether the orange level covers the whole zone or only la Safor and la Marina Alta, or what level applies elsewhere in the zone between 21:00 and 03:59. It is also not stated whether the 60 mm in 12 hours threshold still applies.
