According to Torrevieja ON, mayor Eduardo Dolón has signed a Decreto de Alcaldía (mayoral decree) declaring three days of official mourning across the whole municipality of Torrevieja. It runs from 00:00 on 29 October to 24:00 on 31 October 2026. The reason given is the accident involving an AVE high-speed train on the Madrid-Seville line, near the municipality of Urda in Toledo province. The mourning is declared in solidarity with those who died, those injured and their families.
During the mourning period the town hall (Ayuntamiento) is suspending all public events and ceremonies held by the municipal administration. Flags on the outside of municipal buildings will be flown at half-mast. The Halloween parade in Torrevieja is cancelled, as are all events linked to the town hall.
The decision was taken under the Spanish government's royal decree (Real Decreto) on mourning, and under the powers set out in Ley 7/85, the national law on the basis of local government. The decree is to be sent immediately to the spokespeople of the town's political groups. Its text will be published on the town hall website and on the official notice board (Tablón de Anuncios).
The source does not give the number of dead or injured, the date of the Halloween parade, or say whether municipal services are affected.
