Work began on Thursday 22 October with milling (removal of the existing road surface) on calle Perseo, avenida de Inglaterra, calle Adriano, calle Puerto Romano and calle Vía Augusta. Once the top layer has been milled off, new asphalt will be laid. The town hall plans to finish everything in La Mata on Friday 30 October.
In total, 14,886 m² of road surface will be renewed: 6,886 m² on calle Perseo, 4,500 m² on avenida de Inglaterra and 3,500 m² on calles Adriano, Puerto Romano and Vía Augusta combined. The town hall says the work will remove wear on the surface, make the carriageway smoother and make travel safer and easier for residents and other road users. It has not said whether there will be traffic or parking restrictions.
The work is part of a municipal contract for resurfacing and improving pedestrian routes and accessibility (contrato municipal de reasfaltado y mejora de itinerarios peatonales y accesibilidad). The contract covers 327,529 m² of streets in the north and south zones of the municipality. The budget for both lots when the contract was put out to tender was €6,368,670.50, including IVA (Spanish VAT). The north lot went to Eiffage Infraestructuras, S.A. and the south lot to Pavasal Empresa Constructora, S.A.U. The sources do not say which company is working in La Mata. Besides resurfacing, the contract includes accessibility improvements in places: wider pavements, lowered kerbs at crossings and updated road signs.
